Chart Feed – 17.10.11

LMFAO has the biggest selling single in Australia this week with the charming and timeless jam ‘Sexy and I Know It’. The American dance duo managed to dethrone Kelly Clarkson after her one-week reign on top with ‘Mr Know It All’. This is LMFAO’s second #1 hit here following the massive ‘Party Rock Anthem’. Fun fact: ‘Party Rock Anthem’ is the second longest running #1 single Australia has had in this century – reigning for 10 whole weeks. The longest staying #1 single we’ve had since 2000 is still Eminem‘s ‘Lose Control’, clocking 12 weeks. That’s the one to beat.

Beyoncé‘s ‘Love On Top’ rises to a new peak of #21 in Australia this week. We remain as the only territory to have picked up this track and run with it. Over in the US, ‘Love On Top’ makes its way back up to #82 on the US Billboard R&B/ Hip Hop charts. Other Bey singles to be making waves right now include ‘Party’ (featuring André 3000) – cracking the US Billboard Hot 100 at #93 and seeing this success naturally reflected on the R&B/Hip Hop charts, where it rose to #9 – and ‘Countdown’, her third official single, rising to #66 on the American R&B charts. Over in the UK, ‘Countdown’ leaps from #171 to #77.

Ed Sheeran‘s ‘The A Team’ debuts at #32, becoming the highest charting new entry on our ARIA Top 50 this week. Elsewhere, major pick up from the following three singles who all managed to crack the Top 50 in their second week – Simple Plan ‘Can’t Keep My Hands Off You’ (#45), Katy Perry ‘The One That Got Away’ (#48) and Nicole Scherzinger ‘Wet’ (#49).

Cody Simpson‘s ‘On My Mind’ enters at #51 in Australia this week. It must really irk his minders to not see this at least crack the Top 50 after all the promo and Skyping he’s had to endure in the last seven days. On the plus side, the blonde teen’s album Coast to Coast rises ten spots to #16. I suppose he is winning after all.

Speaking of winning Aussies, Vanessa Amorosi‘s ‘Amazing’ finally cracks the Top 100 at #83 this week – no doubt thanks to the X Factor performance last week. Meanwhile, other Australian pop new releases like Natalie Bassingthwaighte‘s ‘All We Have’ and Stan Walker‘s ‘Light It Up’ have yet to show up in the ARIA Top 100. Change might be coming Nat Bass’ way, though. ‘All We Have’ suddenly enjoys some radio pick up, becoming the fifth most added new song to our airwaves this week. Shannon Noll‘s ‘Switch Me On’ plummets to #71 this week. People probably stopped buying it because they knew the album was coming [Editor's note: in fact, A Million Suns as it is called came out on Friday].

Wynter Gordon‘s stunning ‘Buy My Love’ finally cracks the ARIA Top 100 at #77 after what has seemed like an eternity since the single was first issued to radios. I am not sure what’s inspiring the sudden pick up of late, but I’m sure glad it’s happening. It would be great to see this go Top 20 eventually just like its predecessors ‘Til Death’ (certified gold sales) and ‘Dirty Talk’ (last summer’s #1 which went on to be certified four times platinum sales). The album With The Music I Die shamefully remains well outside our Top 100.

360‘s debut album Falling & Flying tumbles to #10 in its second week. Meanwhile, over on the ARIA Top 100 – two of his tracks surface: ‘Boys Like You’ featuring Melbourne singer Gossling (#81) and his current single ‘Killer’ (#88).

Lana Del Rey‘s eagerly anticipated breakthrough single ‘Video Games’ debuts straight in at #98 this week. We all kinda saw this doing well ever since it started appearing on the iTunes charts based on pre-orders alone. ‘Video Games’ comes out in the UK this week, so check back next Monday to see where she lands on the British charts. LDR really is one of the best discoveries 2011 has brought to date. You can peruse reviews and pick up so many great descriptors of her style (eg. “gangster Nancy Sinatra“) but the package is probably best first experienced by watching the ‘Video Games’ video.

Gotye‘s Making Mirrors remain as the biggest selling Australian album out there right now – sitting at #4 this week with a shiny new double platinum accreditation. The ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ warbler has earned seven 2011 ARIA Awards nominations including Single of The Year, Best Male Artist and Highest Selling Single for the aforementioned track with Kimbra. Gotye has also been confirmed to perform at the award ceremony on 27 November. Looking on the UK release schedule, I was surprised to find ‘Easy Way Out’ etched in for a 28 November release. Dude, this song is like less than two minutes long.

Sneaky Sound System‘s From Here to Anywhere debuts at #11 in Australia this week – becoming the third biggest new entry here. Other debuts ahead of the Aussie duo include Chris Isaak‘s new one Beyond The Sun coming in at #3 and Evanescence‘s much-touted self-titled comeback at #5. Meanwhile, the Sneaky’s current smash single ’Big’ moves to a new peak of #58. It’s actually the second week in the row that the song has jumped ten places up the chart. At this rate, they should be well in the ARIA Top 50 by this time next week – right?

Bjork‘s Biophilia enters at a humble #48 this week in Australia and #21 in the UK – making this the lowest charting positions ever for her in both territories (I am, of course, only comparing this with her other studio albums – not greatest hits package, remix albums etc). Biophilia wound up with only 9,872 first week sales in the UK. I’ve come to expect a bit more from Bjork given all the publicity and attention she has garnered for this project’s multimedia elements. The experimental artiste definitely has more of a cult following, which usually means heavy first week sales, then you fall off the charts. If this is as good as it gets for the first week then we might be in trouble.

Steps scores a comeback #1 album with their Ultimate Steps collection scorching up the UK charts this week, meaning the band can now proudly say they’ve had a #1 album in every one of the last three decades. But before we start toasting, Ultimate Steps pulled a humble 34,200 first week sales to go #1 – making it the second lowest selling #1 in the UK this year. Back in their hey day, Steps managed three million-selling albums – Step One (1.39 million, even though it never actually made #1), Steptacular (1.28 million) and Gold: The Greatest Hits (1.11 million). Could the Ultimate Steps collection gather enough momentum to reach those heights come their April reunion shows?

Evanescence‘s self-titled third album looked so certain to go #1 in the UK when the midweeks came in but by the week’s end, it finished the race at #4 with a total of 26,221 copies sold.

Adele is still canceling every other ho in the game here. The British soul siren is on course to become the first artist to score both biggest selling album and single in both the US and UK since The Beatles did it in 1964. Over in the US, ’Rolling In The Deep’ is still unmatched as the biggest selling single of the year so far. ’Someone Like You’ is hands down the biggest selling single of the year so far in the UK – clocking over 1.2 million copies. Y’know, at this rate, I don’t even think this year’s British X Factor winner has a chance of outdoing that come the finals in December. If you wanna compare, last year’s series winner Matt Cardle managed 810,000 copies to go #1.

Looking on the album charts, Adele has not only got the biggest selling album in UK this year with 21 (hitting 3.1 million sales), she’s also got the second biggest in its predecessor: 19. The third biggest selling album in the UK so far in 2011 is Bruno Mars‘ Doo-Wops & Hooligans. Rihanna‘s mega hit album Loud and Lady Gaga‘s Born This Way rank at fourth and fifth place respectively.

Rihanna‘s ‘We Found Love’ surprisingly holds on to the #1 spot for its second consecutive week. This is basically the first time since July that we’ve had a single stay longer than a week at #1. The Brits are going hard for RiRi. ‘We Found Love’ registered at 20% sales increase in its second week, taking home over 106,553 sales. Meanwhile, Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera‘s ‘Moves Like Jagger’ clocks its seventh week at #2. Apparently this is only the second single in history to have spent seven weeks at #2 (and never go #1). The last one was All-4-One‘s ‘I Swear’ back in 1994.

Gym Class Heroes and Adam Levine have the highest selling new single in the UK this week with ‘Stereo Hearts’ debuting at #3 with 68,287 first week sales. This is Gym Class Heroes‘ highest charting position there since their breakout single ‘Cupid’s Chokehold’ in 2006. That one also made #3.

X Factor winner Matt Cardle didn’t go stomping into #1 after all. His new single ‘Run For Your Life’ – which was written by Gary Barlow – debuted at #6, selling 39,633 copies to become the second biggest new release on the charts. Consider this, the previous year’s winner Joe McElderry also clocked #6 with his first original single ‘Ambitions’.

One Direction sees their hit single ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ drop to #10 in its fifth week. The X Factor formed boy band is primed to launch their second single ‘Got To Be You’ on 14 November in the UK, a week before their debut album Up All Night arrives. The album features a track titled ‘Tell Me A Lie’ which was reportedly co-written by Kelly Clarkson. There’s also a RedOne produced track called ‘Save You Tonight’.

This year’s UK X Factor finalists will release their charity single – a cover of ‘Wishing On A Star’ – on 21 November. These charity records have all gone #1 and traditionally sold quite generously as well. The very first one, a cover of Mariah Carey‘s ‘Hero’ recorded by the 2008 finalists, went double platinum in the UK.

Scotty McCreery – the latest American Idol winner – has made history in his own way, y’all. The 18-year old’s debut album Clear As Day enters at #1 on the US Billboard 200, making him the youngest man to have a debut album enter at #1. The last record holder was R&B singer Omarion who saw his first album O debut at #1 in 2005 when he was aged 20.

Amazingly enough, Scotty is also the first American Idol winner since 2003 to have a debut album enter at #1. Clear As Day sold a meek 197,000 copies to top the charts. The last Idol winner to have an album debut at #1 – Ruben Stannard – pulled off 417,000 first-week sales. Just saying.

Gloria Estefan‘s comeback album Miss Little Havana made something of a death drop, y’all. After debuting at #28 – selling something like 17,000 first week copies – the Latin dance/pop album sank to #129 in its second week. I mean, damn. It’s almost enough to make a girl vow to never dance again. I love how the forums are crying murder now, blaming the album’s “Target exclusive” deal for the commercial floppage. Basically, if she had done a Walmart exclusive – which a lot of stars manage – instead of a Target one, things wouldn’t have looked this dismal. There are reportedly over 4,700 Walmart stores around the US and only 1,800 Target branches. There you go. Less Mami Gloria CDs to go around. Meanwhile, looking on the US dance/club charts, Gloria’s current single ‘Wepa’ tumbles from #1 to #7.

Taio Cruz‘s new single ‘Hangover’ (featuring Flo Rida) debuts at #62 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Meanwhile, further down, J.Lo‘s ‘Papi’ returns at #96 – possibly pushed by stronger club plays? The ‘Papi’ remixes move up to #3 on the US Billboard Dance/Club charts. Speaking of dance hits, Nervo‘s debut recording artist single ‘We’re All No One’ moves up to #31 on the US Billboard Dance/Club charts.

Monica‘s new single ‘Until It’s Gone’ makes a surprising leap in its second week to #55 on the US R&B/ Hip Hop charts. Its superb predecessor ‘Anything (To Find You)’ has done pretty well for a buzz single to reach #25 there. Old Mo’s seventh studio album New Life will drop on 29 November in the US.

Kelly Rowland‘s ‘Lay It On Me’ drops a few place back to #47 on the US Billboard R&B/Hip Hop. Wait a minute, shouldn’t it be moving up and not the other way? Here I Am [International Version] is slated for a UK release on 7 November, a week after the dance/pop single ‘Down For Whatever’ drops. Make what you will of this “international version”. She told That Grape Juice that it’ll be a revised tracklisting with more dance-oriented material but who knows, there hasn’t been any more information teased.

Chart Feed – 10.10.11

Kelly Clarkson scores her first ever Australian #1 single. I know, right? ‘Mr Know It All’ has done the unthinkable: 1) dethrone Gotye and Kimbra after a record-breaking eight-week stay on top, 2) overtake Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera‘s ‘Moves Like Jagger’, which was riding at #2 for months, 3) bettered her previous chart peak of #3, as trekked by ‘Since U Been Gone’ and ‘Miss Independent’. Over in the States, ‘Mr Know It All’ climbs back up to #30 on the US Billboard Hot 100. It’s also finally moving up the airplay charts to a new peak of #28. Friends in the UK won’t be getting ‘Mr Know It All’ until 17 October.

Rihanna debuts straight in at #1 in the UK this week with ‘We Found Love’ (featuring Calvin Harris). The Barbadian bombshell is now the first female solo artist to score six UK chart-toppers in five consecutive years. ‘We Found Love’ now joins the glittery #1 club alongside ‘Umbrella’, ‘Take A Bow’ and ‘Only Girl In The World’. ‘We Found Love’ managed to sell 87,000 copies in the four days it was out last week – such an effortless qualifier for #1.

Spare a thought for ‘Moves Like Jagger’, which is spending its sixth consecutive week at #2, beaten to the top by a different #1 single each week. Consolation: ‘Moves Like Jagger’ is still the most played song on UK radios. ‘We Found Love’ rises to #9 on the US Billboard Hot 100. It’s also the sixth most downloaded song in the States, selling 147,000 copies in the last week.

360 scores the biggest selling new album of the week in Australia. His brilliant debut Falling & Flying managed to enter at #4, racing ahead of five other new releases in the Top 30. I know he’s nothing like the kind of artist I normally listen to or write about on Feed Limmy but I’m quite impressed with this record. I was totally sold after hearing the first two singles ‘Just Got Started’ and ‘Throw It Away’.

Bruno Mars has the highest selling new single in Australia this week with his Twilight track ‘It Will Rain’ entering at #22. Elsewhere, Nickelback‘s ‘When We Stand Together’ enters at #46. The song is also incidentally the most added new song to Australian radios this week. Vom.

Katy Perry‘s sixth Teenage Dream single ‘The One That Got Away’ enters at #87 this week on our ARIA charts and becomes the second most added new song to local airwaves. Kitty‘s Teenage Dream album also made a surprise return to the Top 50 at #12 this week after a flash sale on iTunes. I’m well tired of her ass already.

Adele‘s Gossip-esque ‘Rumour Has It’ is the eighth most added new song to Aussie radios this week. Are we onto the next one already? I thought ‘Set Fire To The Rain’ was only getting warmed up down here. Said single drops to #14 this week while the mega-selling album 21 remains on top of our ARIA charts for its 21st week. Meanwhile in the States, ‘Someone Like You’ returns to #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 as predicted. ‘Moves Like Jagger’ may still be the most played song on American radios but ‘Someone Like You’ overtook it with digital sales. For those keeping score: ‘Someone Like You’ sold 222,000 downloads while ‘Moves Like Jagger’ did 198,000.

Elen Levon‘s ‘Naughty’ cracks the ARIA singles chart at #60 this week, appearing more favourably on the Australian singles chart (#5) and ARIA dance charts (#17). The 17-year old pop vixen’s already prepping her follow up single. I reckon there’s a good chance it’ll be the James Ash (Rogue Traders) produced ‘Like A Girl In Love’.

Anthony Callea‘s nouveau disco comeback single ‘Oh Oh Oh Oh’ is currently charting at #115 on our Aussie iTunes store. Meanwhile, Vanessa Amorosi‘s ‘Amazing’ sits at #144 while Stan Walker‘s ‘Light It Up’ continues to rise ahead of the pack of new Aussie pop releases, currently sitting at #58. V Mama‘s album – V – has been pushed back to 11 November. The 13-track record comes with an Almighty club remix of ‘Amazing’.

The Wanted‘s ‘Glad You Came’ is currently placed at #30 here. Great news for fans Down Under. It seems like the local label will be dropping the lads’ forthcoming sophomore album Battleground here on 18 November, two weeks after its UK release. The Wanted‘s ‘Lightning’ leapt to #19 on the British airplay charts this week, all in good time as the single gears up to drop on 30 October.

Aussie teen pop sensation Cody Simpson sees his album Coast to Coast debut at #26 this week – largely thanks to his Sunrise “concert” performance where they absolutely felt no guilt whatsoever dubbing him the “Australian Justin Bieber”. Please.

Simple Plan‘s ‘Can’t Keep My Hands Off You’ enters at #56 in Australia this week, thanks a quick promo stopover which included a jaunt on our local X Factor stage last week. The Canadian band’s current album Get Your Heart On re-enters at #35. Meanwhile, Natalie Bassingthwaighte – who also took to the same stage and same episode to flog her single – has yet to see ‘All We Have’ crack the ARIA Top 100. To say that the general response has been unsavoury would be too kind. The track is currently sitting at #71 on our Aussie iTunes chart.

Sneaky Sound System‘s ‘Big’ climbs 10 places to #68 this week. All movement in the right direction considering that the album just dropped on Friday. From Here to Anywhere is currently placed at #11 on the Aussie iTunes chart. I’d like to call it out now to be the biggest debut on next week’s chart but I’m pretty sure that new Evanescence album will outsell it.

Nicole Scherzinger‘s ‘Wet’ debuts at #81 in Australia this week after it was finally serviced to local radios last week. This trashy piece really deserves to be a commercial success. Her Killer Love album has done surprisingly well considering the zero promo work in Australia but with ‘Don’t Hold Your Breath’ and ‘Right There’ slowly waning off radio rotation, the record slides to #83 this week. Despite some drastic price slashing, ‘Wet’ never generated enough sales to break the UK Top 20. This unfortunately puts an end to the ex-Pussycat’s string of UK Top 3 solo singles.

David Guetta and Usher‘s ‘Without You’ cracks our ARIA club charts at #49 this week. The video for the song is expected to drop sometime this week. Looking around the globe, ‘Without You’ makes a new peak of #15 in the UK this week and #8 on the US Billboard Hot 100. It has also just cracked the American airplay Top 20. The club remixes for ‘Without You’ managed to debut at #30 on the US Billboard Dance/Club charts.

Marina & The Diamonds‘ new single ‘Radioactive’ enters at #25 this week, making it the Welsh warbler’s fourth UK Top 40 smash. Her biggest chart feat to date has been ‘Hollywood’ (peaking at #12) while my personal fave ‘Oh No!’ only managed to go #38 last August. Will British and local radios lap up her new “commercial” sound? Meanwhile, Florence + The Machine‘s ‘Shake It Out’ debuts at #27 in the UK, not bettering the position of its predecessor ‘What The Water Gave Me’ (which peaked at #24 last month).

Darren Hayes‘ new international single ‘Black Out The Sun’ drops from #31 to #39 on the UK radio airplay charts this week. The track is now nowhere to be found in the iTunes Top 200. Speaking of new choons on the British airwaves, Cher Lloyd and Mike Posner‘s summery ‘With Ur Love’ debuts at #46 on the airplay charts while Dionne Bromfield‘s ‘Ouch That Hurts’ rises to #32.

Lady Gaga‘s fourth Born This Way single ‘You and I’ finally makes a new peak of #24 in the UK this week thanks to TV appearances there and some strategic digital track discounts on iTunes. Funny thing is, the song actually fell out of the UK airplay Top 20 this week. ’You and I’ drops to #38 in Australia this week and dips a little to #12 on the US Billboard Hot 100. In the last week, ‘You and I’ managed to sell over 95,000 digital copies in the States, making it the 11th most downloaded song in the country.

The pop sensation has confirmed that the next Born This Way single will be the Real McCoy-esque stomper ‘Marry The Night’. Fans can also expect the Monster Ball Tour DVD and Born This Way remix album to both arrive on 21 November (possibly 18 November for Aussies).

Jennifer Lopez‘s ‘Papi’ drops from #67 to #83 in the UK this week. What, leaving already? The album’s frontrunner ‘On The Floor’ is still in the UK Top 100 after like a lifetime and has become the sixth biggest single so far of 2011. Over in the States, ‘Papi’ shoots to #4 on the dance charts.

Laidback Luke & Example‘s ‘Natural Disaster’ leaps to #73 in the UK. The hit DJ has been promising his track with Wynter Gordon – ‘Speak Up’ – all year and he’s finally confirmed that it’ll be his next single. The pair had played the track at Coachella and various dance music festivals around the world for months.

Ms Gordon‘s own ‘Buy My Love’ is still down for a 24 October release in the UK and the album With The Music I Die slated for 7 November. However, something tells me that the UK version might contain some new material she’s currently recording. Her manager has tweeted me to say that new songs are coming “so soon”. Make of it what you will. ‘Buy My Love’ is currently placed at #91 on our Australian iTunes chart.

Nicola Roberts‘ ‘Yo-Yo’ has appeared on the UK release schedule but with no date assigned as yet. The Girls Aloud siren’s album Cinderella’s Eyes makes a death drop from its #17 debut last week to #72. *Clutching my chest* Speaking of underrated British pop, Sophie Ellis-Bextor‘s Make A Scene has surprisingly climbed to #76 on our iTunes chart. Unfortunately, there’s no Aussie release date set yet for Nicola‘s material.

Matt Cardle‘s ‘Run For Your Life’ picks up more radio rotation as it shoots to #13 on the UK airplay charts. The 2010 X Factor winner returned to the show last night to flog the track but despite the major promo coup, it has only so far managed to go #4 on the British iTunes charts. It seems like I’m stating the obvious here but I reckon – given Matt’s fan base and style of music – he might just be a better album seller. They should’ve dropped the album and single on the same day. Matt‘s debut LP Letters will arrive this coming Sunday. The project’s second single ‘Starlight’ is slated for a 5 December release.

Gloria Estefan‘s fun Latin dance comeback Miss Little Havana debuts at #28 on the US Billboard 200 this week. Meanwhile, the album’s infectious lead single ‘Wepa’ goes #1 on the dance charts. Other noteworthy new entries this week include Jason DeRulo‘s Future History debuting at #29 and LeAnn Rimes‘ country album Lady & Gentlemen coming in at #32.

Beyoncé‘s ‘Party’ finally appears on the mainstream US Billboard Airplay 100 at #71 as the track climbs the R&B/Hip Hop charts to #16. When is this goddamn video gonna appear? I hear rapper J Cole has already filmed his bit for the remix video. OK, that did sound a little petulant and ungrateful given that we only just got the ‘Countdown’ video last week and copped a teaser for ‘Love On Top’ less than 24 hours ago.

‘Countdown’ shoots up to #71 on the US R&B/Hip Hop charts while ‘Love On Top’ expectedly falls there. I believe Australia’s the only territory kinda going hard for this song. ‘Love On Top’ is currently bolting back up the iTunes charts, landing at #16. We might actually see this go Top 20 on the ARIAs this Sunday. ‘End of Time’ has disappeared off the UK release schedule after weeks of seeing it etched there for a 30 October launch alongside ‘Countdown’. The latter will obviously still go ahead in that region on that day. Funnily enough, ‘Love On Top’ has now appeared on the UK release schedule – down for a 12 December drop date.

Kelendria Trene Rowland‘s Here I Am exits the American Top 100 this week but her new single ‘Lay It On Me’ continues to move up the R&B charts, breaking higher ground at #43.

Chart Feed – 03.10.11

Rihanna becomes the clear biggest new entry on the world charts this week with ‘We Found Love’ (featuring Calvin Harris) entering Top 10 in the following places: Australia (#3), Canada (#10), New Zealand (#14) and US Billboard Hot 100 (#16). Over in the US, ‘We Found Love’ managed to sell 117,000 first week copies and even before its official radio release, the song has already made its mark at #75 on the airplay charts. The Barbadian beauty’s sixth studio album, which was originally slated for an early 2012 release, is now due 21 November.

Kelly Clarkson‘s ‘Mr Know It All’ climbs to #12 on our ARIA singles chart after her quick promo stopover last week which include performances on X Factor Australia [Editor's note: she was so charming and sweet y'all] and the NRL Grand Final. The song is currently reigning at #1 on our Aussie iTunes chart so expect for it easily go Top 10 on the ARIAs by week end. Meanwhile over in the US, ‘Mr Know It All’ falls to #38 on the Billboard Hot 100. Radio support ain’t crash hot for it right now. The song isn’t even in the nation’s Top 30 airplay.

LMFAO‘s ‘Sexy and I Know It’ cracks a new peak of #13 on our Aussie singles chart this week, largely due to their X Factor Australia appearance once again, just like Ms Kelly. I have to say, their energetic show stopping performance of their #1 smash ‘Party Rock Anthem’ really did lift the atmosphere. The song, which is perched at #15 this week, is officially the longest staying single in our ARIA Top 50 right now. We’re talking 31 weeks and counting, racking up a “monstrous” eight times platinum sales certification (which equates to approximately 560,000 copies). The duo’s also double dipping in the US right now with two of the aforementioned hits simultaneously inhabiting the Top 10.

Sneaky Sound System‘s flawless ‘Big’ cracks the ARIA Top 100 at #78 this week. Look, I don’t understand why the underwhelming chart entry. Weren’t they also on X Factor like the two aforementioned international acts? I guess what’s standing between ‘Big’ and commercial success that lives up to its namesake is actually decent radio rotation. The new Kelly Clarkson and LMFAO singles will have no issues getting added across the nation but for some reason a SSS dance ballad’s missing out. The Aussie dance pop duo’s last release ‘We Love’ scraped in at #29 at best.

Foster The People‘s corker of a single ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ rises to #19 in Australia this week, making this a belated smash for the American indie rockers. The song first dropped in the States in September last year and look at it now, ascending to #3 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Fun fact: ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ was the first US Billboard Alternative Songs #1 hit to actually crossover to the mainstream Billboard Hot 100 Top 5 since Kings of Leon‘s ‘Use Somebody’ in 2009. Golf claps. You know this automatically translates to daft talent show covers now, right?

Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull‘s new collabo ‘I Like How It Feels’ crashes in at #47 this week on our ARIA charts. In terms of hit singles, the Euphoria era is actually the best Enrique’s ever performed here in Australia. Yes, even bettering that of his smash Escape album. Every song released here circa Euphoria has so far managed Top 50, see: ‘I Like It’ (#2), ‘Heartbeat’ (#5), ‘Tonight (I’m Loving You)’ (#2) and ‘Dirty Dancer’ (#24). I have no doubt that ‘I Like How It Feels’ will also reach Top 30 status in no time. The “Reloaded” repackage edition of Euphoria will arrive on Aussie store fronts on 11 November – featuring three new recordings including ‘Mouth 2 Mouth’ with Jennifer Lopez (a track that was co-written by UK X Factor’s Diana Vickers of all people).

Sophie Ellis-Bextor finally releases her stunning Make A Scene album in Australia last Friday and after a weekend of only playing two 40-minute sets in Melbourne and Sydney, the best I’ve clocked the album charting was #94 on iTunes (it’s currently at #136).

It was an absolute dream come true to finally see her live. Y’guys know that she’s one of my all time fave pop singers, right? Sure it’s not everything she could’ve given after nine long years away – and she knows it. But the “greatest hits” set featuring classics like ‘Murder On The Dancefloor’, ‘Groovejet’ and ‘Get Over You’ was a well worthwhile joy ride and Sophie utterly radiates warmth, joy and stage presence throughout her time on stage. You can tell she was just living to be there for her fans.

This has to be some kind of record for our ARIA charts so far this year. This week Australia saw nine new entries in its Top 30 albums chart but alas, none have been able to topple the almighty Adele who spends her 20th week at #1 with 21. The album is now equal eighth longest-running chart topper in ARIA history, sharing the record with Shania Twain‘s epic Come On Over.

In case you were wondering, the albums to have spent longer #1 in Australia include: The Sound of Music soundtrack (76 weeks), Dire Straits‘ Brothers in Arms (34 weeks), The Beatles‘ Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (30 weeks), Neil Diamond‘s Hot August Night (29 weeks), Delta Goodrem‘s Innocent Eyes (29 weeks), The Original Broadway cast’s Hair soundtrack (28 weeks) and John Farnham‘s Whispering Jack (25 weeks).

The aforementioned nine new releases to crack our Top 30 this week include: Blink 182‘s Neighborhoods (#2), Tony Bennett‘s Duets II (#3), Kasabian‘s Velociraptor (#8), Machine Head‘s Unto the Locust (#10), Jason DeRulo‘s Future History (#11), Alice Cooper‘s Welcome To My Nightmare (#16), Mastodon‘s The Hunter (#18), Demi Lovato‘s Unbroken (#20), Kasey Chambers‘ Storybook (#21) and Wilco‘s The Whole Love (#23).

Tony Bennett must be doing something right to score his first ever US #1 album this week after making music for six decades! His brand new Duets II compilation – which features some young gun collabos like Lady Gaga, Michael Buble, Carrie Underwood, John Mayer and the late Amy Winehouse – managed to sell 179,000 first week copies to debut on top. Tony is now the oldest living artist to have an album debut at #1 on the US charts. Amazing.

Demi Lovato‘s third album Unbroken cracks the US Billboard charts at #4, making it the second biggest new album there this week. Tony might have the overall #1 but as far as digital sales are concerned, Demi reigns on top. Unbroken is also incidentally the former Disney pop princess’ best-charting album here, bettering the #40 peak of its predecessor Here We Go Again. This is a dawn of a new era for the girl. The project’s lead single ‘Skyscraper’ is already her biggest US hit since her debut ‘This Is Me’ and on the flip side, it also became her biggest smash in Australia – peaking at #45.

Havana Brown‘s ‘Get It’ cracks the ARIA club charts at #38 this week while over on the ARIA Top 100, the single sinks to #63 in its third week. Oh dear. Isn’t it baffling that we only have three Aussie artists represented in our ARIA Top 50? Perhaps Aussie artists are better at selling albums than singles? While we’re doing an Aussie pop head count, where’s Stan Walker‘s new one ‘Light It Up’, Darren Hayes‘ ‘Bloodstained Heart’ and Vanessa Amorosi‘s ‘Amazing’? The latter should have at least cracked the Top 100 by now but maybe we need to wait for sales to snowball after the Van Am‘s AFL grand final warble.

Natalie Bassingthwaighte‘s ‘All We Have’ has arrived on our local iTunes store front and right now it’s sitting at #170. The digital bundle comes with two kick arse remixes – including the Khalid one that her label previewed early last month. Looks like the diva’s running in the same circles as Havana Brown these days – sharing the same producer More Mega and video directorial team Silo. The ‘All We Have’ video will be uploaded sometime this week on YouTube. Y’all can expect for her to perform the song for the first time on X Factor tomorrow night.

Nicola Roberts‘ amazing debut solo album Cinderella’s Eyes enters at #17 on the UK charts this week while the current single ‘Lucky Day’ disappears from the Top 100 altogether. Look, it’s pretty respectable if you ask me given the singles’ chart performance. Still better than Insatiable is not usually a consolation but it’ll have to do in this context.

Elsewhere, Will Young‘s ‘Jealousy’ leaves the UK Top 10, The Saturdays‘ ‘All Fired Up’ exits the Top 20 while Leona Lewis‘ underperforming ‘Collide’ drops out of the Top 30. The former two have singles raring to go next month but what’s the sitch with Leona? Will we simply  not hear anything until the new year? Her Glassheart album, which was originally slated for a November release, will now arrive on 26 March.

Rebecca Ferguson‘s much-anticipated debut single has appeared on the UK release schedule. ‘Nothing’s Real But Love’ is slated for a 5 December release (the same day as the album drop) and someone on the Popjustice forums have tentatively described the song as more Corinne Bailey Rae than Adele. Holy shit. I’m about to lose my mind.

Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera‘s ‘Moves Like Jagger’ spends its fourth week at #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 – already the longest staying #1 the band’s ever had. Having said that, I reckon Adele‘s ‘Someone Like You’ might rise from #2 to claim the top spot next week. ‘Someone Like You’ has picked up significant radio airplay in the States in the last week and its digital sales is not too far from what M5 is doing right now. ‘Moves Like Jagger’ sold 233,000 digital copies while ‘Someone Like You’ did 201,000. Speaking of impacts on the digital sphere, Jason Mraz‘s new single ‘The World As I See It’ debuts at #149 on the US Billboard Digital Tracks chart. Glad to have him back.

Beyoncé‘s ‘Party’ (featuring André 3000) cracks the US Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Top 20 while its predecessor ‘Best Thing I Never Had’ tumbles to #8 there. Speaking of tumbles, Kelendria Trene Rowland‘s ‘Motivation’ finally leaves the said Top 10 while its successor ‘Lay It On Me’ is taking its time, only inching up one spot to #46. Elsewhere on the urban scene, Mary J. Blige‘s new single ’25/8′ bullets to #53.

Luciana‘s ‘I’m Still Hot’ makes #1 on the US Billboard Dance/Club play charts. We can all thank Betty White for that, right? Other big gainers there include Lady Gaga‘s ‘You and I’ (reaching a new peak of #8), Jennifer Lopez‘s ‘Papi’ (#10) and Gloria Estefan‘s ‘Wepa’ – which by the way is one of my favourite jams right now. Her new Latin-dance album Miss Little Havana is good fun, y’guys. You need to check out the slightly ‘We No Speak Americano’ album highlight ‘Hotel Nacional’.

Chart Feed – 26.09.11

Gotye and Kimbra‘s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ is once again on the edge of chart-defining glory. As y’all know, I don’t usually care to report on serial #1 space invaders but when they clock a major milestone, it’s only polite to acknowledge and golf clap. ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ is now the longest staying #1 ARIA single by an Aussie artist since Savage Garden‘s ‘Truly Madly Deeply’ in 1997. If it remains at #1 this time next week, it’d be an equal tie with ‘Truly Madly Deeply’ which reigned for eight consecutive weeks at #1. ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ has also gone #1 in Netherlands and New Zealand. Gotye‘s Making Mirrors is perched at #3 on the ARIA albums chart this week while Kimbra‘s own Vows slides to #8. The Kiwi songbird’s third single ‘Good Intent’ becomes the eighth most added new song to Aussie radios this week.

Adele has now clocked over 10 million sales worldwide for her defining 21 album. That’s 10 million copies in the nine months it has been out – three million of those coming from the US alone where she has experienced unprecedented chart success this year. It is quite easily the best selling album in the UK,US and Australia this year with Lady Gaga‘s Born This Way being the next best contender. 21 hangs on to #1 in Australia this week, beating off five new entries in the Top 20 who all fell in line accordingly: The Jezabels Prisoners (#2), Lady Antebellum Own The Night (#5), The Funkoars The Quickening (#11), Opeth Heritage (#12) and Pearl Jam‘s Twenty soundtrack (#14). Over on the Aussie singles chart, Adelegend is turning tables on her three Top 20 hits. The newest one ‘Set Fire To The Rain’ leaps to #11 while past glories ‘Someone Like You’ and ‘Rolling In The Deep’ slide off to #12 and #14 respectively.

Coldplay‘s ‘Paradise’ rises to #37 on our ARIA charts this week but y’all can expect for shit to pick up because it was the third most added new track to Aussie radios this week. Over in the US, ‘Paradise’ is the biggest new entry debuting at #16 on the Billboard Hot 100. The band’s much-hyped new album Mylo Xyloto arrives on 21 October in Australia – the same day as Darren Hayes‘ Secret Codes and Battleships, Kelly Clarkson‘s Stronger and Washington‘s I Believe You Liar/Insomnia repackage. It’ll be a hectic week for new releases, won’t it? Well, it depends on who you ask.

Darren Hayes‘ second Aussie single from this era – ‘Bloodstained Heart’ – is still a no show in the ARIA Top 100. I don’t see it slapped on the front of our iTunes store beside new releases from the aforementioned artists. Do people actually know it is out? ‘Bloodstained Heart’ is understandably not in our Aussie iTunes Top 200 and I am a little startled to see it overtaken by other new tracks like Demi Levato‘s ‘Fix A Heart’ and Emeli Sandé‘s ‘Heaven’. Well, if it’s any consolation, at least he’s still got a cracking loyal fan base.

Bryan Adams‘ new album Bare Bones enters at #38 this week after shocking the nation with his X Factor appearance last week. The general Twitter consensus was basically, a) “he hasn’t aged well” and b) “how good is ‘When You’re Gone’ – like, still?”

Jessie J‘s Who You Are album cops a surprise sales surge this week, possibly thanks to renewed interest via her current Top 10 single ‘Domino’ – which mind you, isn’t actually included on the album. We can also weigh in on the X Factor bump – remember Young Men’s Society performed her smash ‘Price Tag’ last Monday night? Meanwhile, if one is to forecast – ‘Who You Are’, her major tear jerker ballad, is set to impact UK markets on 7 November. It’ll serve as the album’s fifth overall single.

The Wanted‘s ‘Glad You Came’ breaks the Aussie Top 20, as I predicted last week. This is some well deserved success for the lads who came out on a promo trip two weeks ago, pretty much building mainstream awareness from scratch after a year of online buzz from the UK.

David Guetta and Sia‘s ‘Titanium’ returns to our ARIA Top 5 this week after reigning as the most played song on Sydney radios last week. It’s funny how different Guetta tracks take precedence at different parts of the world. It seems like the US and UK crowds are losing their minds to the Usher collabo ‘Without You’ (which, mind you, is also a ARIA Top 10 smash here) but no one else seems to get ‘Titanium’ like we do. Sia is very much still an Aussie thing. Is she that much of an acquired taste? Nothing But The Beat clings to #4 position in Australia and #7 in the UK, but drops from #18 to #39 on the US Billboard Hot 200.

Vanessa Amorosi‘s ‘Amazing’ drops to #20 on the ARIA Australian singles chart. Well, we can expect for things to pick up after her AFL Grand Final warble this week, right? Meanwhile, ‘Amazing’ is nowhere to be found in the ARIA Top 100 and neither is another new smash ‘Big’ by Sneaky Sound System, which appeared at #15 on our ARIA Australian singles chart this week. At least the ‘Big’ remixes are tearing up the club charts. They just moved to a new peak of #4 there.

Altiyan Childs‘ new single ‘Ordinary Man’ – which was penned by Ryan Tedder – shows up at #159 on our Aussie iTunes chart. Was anyone actually notified of its release? This promo campaign really could be a whole lot better. Can I just say, I know the song’s sounding more contemporary than the old school rocker vibe he normally gives but I really dig it. ’Ordinary Man’ was despatched to Aussie radios last week alongside current Aussie X Factor judge Natalie Bassingthwaighte‘s new single ‘All We Have’ and Sophie Ellis-Bextor‘s ‘Starlight’ [Editor's note: !!! at the latter].

Kelly Clarkson‘s ‘Mr Know It All’ isn’t exactly moving in the right direction. The lovely new piece slips to #28 here this week while over in the US, it registers a worrying drop from its #18 debut last week to #35. You’ve all seen the nice-ish screen grabs from the forthcoming music video, right? Let’s hope the whole thing surfaces soon enough.

Dev‘s ‘In The Dark’ ascends to #46 in Australia this week, making this her first solo appearance here. The single also rose to #16 over in the US, which is probably sufficient to help the girl shed her feature creature persona. You wanna have hits of your own, don’t you? Meanwhile, a similarly styled track – ‘Mr Saxobeat’ by Alexandra Stan - makes a belated leap to #19 in Australia this week, carving itself a new peak while over in the States, success is mirrored in a new position of #29 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Side bar: call it premonition but I sense something wicked this way comes. If some Dev and Havana Brown collabo is to eventuate over the next 12 months, please remember you heard it here first. Dev‘s next appearance will be on Demi Levato‘s single ‘Who’s That Boy’.

Havana Brown‘s bilious new single ‘Get It’ sinks to #47 in its second week. The unimaginative club stomper is once again produced by More Mega and co-written by Cassie Davis, the team who delivered excellence in her breakthrough single ‘We Run The Night’. The video for ‘Get It’ is set to drop this week and with any luck, the DJ-ing memaw might win me over with her stunning video vixenry once again. If these glowing words of review have inspired you to find out more about Ms Havana, please don’t hesitate to check out this interview she did with my friends at auspOp.

Alexis Jordan returns to our Top 50 via Sean Paul‘s ‘Got 2 Luv U’ this week at #48, almost a month ahead of its UK release. The single also managed to debut at #99 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Look, I’m really not wild about this song in any way shape or form. I still don’t get how the world slept on her stunning last single ‘Hush Hush’ but as far as I’m concerned, we’re done with Ms Jordan’s album. Well, apparently it’s not up to me because the project’s yielding its fourth single ‘How You Like Me Now’ in the next month or so. There you go.

Wynter Gordon‘s flawless ‘Buy My Love’ is set to hit the UK on 24 October while the long-awaited With The Music I Die album arrives 7 November. Both single and album are nowhere to be found in our Aussie Top 100 at the moment which is extremely tragic. Just like Alexis, Ms Diana Gordon found solo success in Australia with her first two singles, went to notch a Top 50 charting collabo, but failed to see their ace third singles do better. I refuse to believe it’s the end of an era for With The Music I Die here but I feel like I might be only one left stanning.

Florence + The Machine‘s roof-raising new single ‘Shake It Out’ becomes the fourth most added new song to Aussie radios this week. By the looks of things, this should have no problem bettering the success of its predecessor ‘What The Water Gave Me’. The flame-haired warbler will launch her sophomore Ceremonials next month.

N Dubz‘s Dappy enters the UK charts at #1 this week with his debut solo single ‘No Regrets’. He’s been fast working on his solo album while the group’s on hiatus [Editor's note: his cousin and band mate Tulisa is a judge on X Factor, in case you've been living under a boulder the size of Ghana]. The spanking new entry is yet another week of scorn for Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera‘s ‘Moves Like Jagger’, who’s still fighting hard at #2 just like they are here in Australia. Will they ever ascend to the top?

Jason DeRulo‘s cringeworthy ‘It Girl’ enters at #4 in the UK, ahead of his sophomore album’s arrival. Future History will come out in stages around the globe – first arriving in Australia last Friday, then it’ll hit US stores tomorrow, before finally coming to UK audiences on 10 October.

The Saturdays‘ ‘All Fired Up’ tumbles to #15 in the UK this week. Look, I didn’t actually expect for it to stick around the Top 20 for this long, given the band’s reputation as front-heavy sellers. The girls’ next move is said to be a track titled ‘Heart Takes Over’. Meanwhile, Sugababes 4.0 seem to have given up on their ‘Freedom’ campaign, offering the single up for a free download. The tale of two British girl bands – watch this space.

Nicola Roberts‘ utterly irresistable new single ‘Lucky Day’ debuts at #40 on the UK charts, easily becoming the lowest charting solo Girls Aloud release since Nadine‘s ‘Sweetest High’ which by the way didn’t enter any Top 100 whatsoever. This embarrassing floppage really shouldn’t be happening. I see Team Ginge going hard on promo with various TV appearances but with virtually no radio support for ‘Lucky Day’, it’s no surprise that it charted where it did. Nicola’s Cinderella’s Eyes comes out in the UK today and despite being one of the best pop album’s I’ve heard all year, I’m really not holding my breath for a Top 20 entry. I don’t think my heart can handle charting this era any more. I’m just gonna excuse myself now and rock back ‘n’ forth in a corner listening to ‘Yo Yo’ on repeat.

UK X Factor has once again rejuvenated interest in some forgotten gems with their hit auditions. Damien Rice‘s ‘Cannonball’ bullets to #9 this week, Jennifer Hudson‘s Dreamgirls classic ‘Love You I Do’ charts for the first time at #80, while K-Ci and JoJo‘s 90′s anthem ‘All My Life’ returns at #89.

Kasabian‘s Velociraptor enters the UK charts at #1 this week, leading a string of notable new album entries – ie: Tony Bennett‘s Duets II (#5 – his much-hyped Amy Winehouse collabo ‘Body & Soul’ sits at #67 there and debuts at #97 in Australia this week), Christina Perri‘s completely forgettable Lovestrong (#9) and Tori Amos‘ rather orchestral Night of Hunters (#27).

Will Young‘s Echoes is still holding tight to the UK Top 10 as radio support for the album’s first smash ‘Jealousy’ still stays strong. Meanwhile, for those looking ahead, the project’s next single ‘Come On’ will arrive on 21 November. That gives us something to look forward to, right? I secretly want for Will to release ‘I Just Want A Lover’ as a sly club promo. Y’know, just as a little treat on the side while he satiates the adult contemporary crowd with stuff like ‘Come On’? Side bar: ‘Come On’ is a cover of a 2009 Kish Mauve single. The British electro pop duo’s last mainstream crossover was when Kylie covered their track ’2 Hearts’ some four years ago.

Melanie C appears to have picked the next single to set sail from The Sea [Editor's note: this album title is the pun-gift that keeps giving, innit?] ‘Weak’ has appeared on the UK release schedule with a drop date of 7 November. This whole era is floundering so bad and frankly, I feel that ‘Burn’ would’ve been the stronger choice of ballad. Why the ominous ‘Weak’?

The Wombats are set to release one of my favourite Modern Glitch tracks ’1996′ on 7 November in the UK, making it the sixth single launched from this era. What’s their motivation with multiple singles, really? The lead ‘Tokyo (Vampires & Wolves)’ managed to go #23 in the UK last year but all its successors haven’t done any better. ‘Jump Into The Fog’ made #35, ‘Anti D’ peaked at #42, ‘Techno Fan’ went #60 and the last one ‘Our Perfect Disease’ was launched last month to no effect.

Leona Lewis scores her very first US Billboard Dance/Club play #1 with ‘Collide’. Meanwhile over in the UK, she drops to #18 on the singles chart and nope, she’s nowhere to be found in our Aussie ARIA Top 100. Thanks for asking, though. I know if it had been adult contemporary slash Ryan Tedder-aided Leona track then Aussie radios would have no problem spinning it but LeLew doing Ibiza-fashioned dance? It’s a tough pitch. Even though our Top 40 is arguably more dance inclined than ever before, it’s a certain sleazy and frenetic kind of dance music that thrives – not the wholesome, euphoric vocal pop variety that ‘Collide’ or even Kylie‘s ‘Put Your Hands Up’ (another US #1 dance smash) is. Side bar: Avicii is set to drop his “version” of ‘Collide’ titled ‘Fade Into Darkness’ next week in the UK – perhaps that will conquer the dance charts over there?

Jennifer Lopez‘s brilliant ‘Papi’ ascends to #19 on the US Billboard Dance/Club play charts. With all hopes dashed for a full scale tour after she signed on for another season of American Idol, I really don’t know what the future holds for ‘Papi’. Let’s hope her delightful set at the iHeartRadio festival yesterday inspired some kind of sales action.

Rihanna‘s ‘California King Bed’ drops to #9 on the US dance charts, expect for it to quickly phase out of the scene now that she’s flogging a new dance pop piece in ‘We Found Love’ (featuring Calvin Harris). Love it or loathe it – that Rihanna reign won’t let up, ho! Elsewhere on the dance charts: Luciana‘s ‘I’m Still Hot’ rises to #3 thanks to buzz from that new Betty White remix, Gloria Estefan‘s ‘Wepa’ moves up to #4, and former Pussycat Doll glamazon Jessica Sutta‘s ‘Show Me’ ascends to #14.

Lady Antebellum‘s Own The Night debuts straight in at #1 in the US this week, dislodging the almighty Adele with 347,000 first week sales. This is the biggest first week sales for a country record America has seen since Taylor Swift‘s Speak Now dropped last year.

Beyoncé‘s gonna have to do something fast – her shit’s sinking like dead weight. The platinum-selling new album 4 took a major drop from #9 to #20 on the US Billboard 200 while the dazzling track ’Love On Top’ is anything but, plummeting to #96 on the US Billboard Hot 100 after just three weeks. Looking on the US Hip Hop/ R&B charts – things aren’t nearly as dramatic: ‘Best Thing I Never Had’ clings to #4, ‘Party’ moves up to #33, ‘Countdown’ pretty much remains at #80 while ‘Love On Top’ charts at #86. Meanwhile across the Atlantic, ’Countdown’ and ‘Love On Top’ are both slated for UK release on 30 October.

First we saw a US Top 10 singles chart without Katy Perry for the first time in over a year, now the album’s Top 20 is clear of the pyro-titty popstar too with Teenage Dream plunging from #12 to #38. Her California Dreams tour just wrapped its first North American leg last week and now she’s almost through with her first ever concert dates in South America. The second leg of her US tour will kick off in November with a new opening act - Ellie Goulding – after Jessie J recently pulled out due to prolonged foot injury.

Kelly Rowland needs to motivate record buyers a little harder while she’s on tour with Chris Brown. Her current album Here I Am continues to tumble two months after it was released in the States, landing at #85 this week. She’s not opening for the F.A.M.E. tour at every single North American show due to X Factor commitments but damn, you’d think things would pick up now with ‘Lay It On Me’ on the up and coming, right? The new urban single moves up to #47 on the US Hip Hop/R&B charts.

On the flipside, Kelendria shan’t be denied of British chart action for too long. Her first international Here I Am single, ‘Down For Whatever’, will hit UK stores on 30 October. Let’s pray to Her Holiness Michelle Williams for some Aussie radio success. Chart Feed – 05.09.11

Gotye featuring Kimbra‘s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ clocks its fourth week on top of the ARIA singles chart while the album drops to #3 after last week’s triumphant #1 entry. I spoke to Kimbra on the phone this arvo to check in on her own fantastic new album Vows and ask her about getting nekkid with Gotye etc., and was surprised to learn that she’s not pocketing as much you’d think with this hit single. Simple fact – she didn’t write ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’. She was merely invited to guest vocal on it. Having said that, her contribution to the track has been immense. Vocally she totally complements Gotye and I honestly don’t think the song would’ve done what it’s done without her input.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers has the biggest selling new album in the UK and Australia this week with I’m With You coming in at #1 and #2 respectively, beating off strong competition from David Guetta.

David Guetta sees his star-studded new album Nothing But The Beat debut at #2 in the UK and #4 in Australia this week. Over on the ARIA singles chart, the record spawns a whopping six Top 50 entries – ‘Titanium’ featuring Sia ascends to #5, ‘Little Bad Girl’ featuring Ludacris and Taio Cruz (#21), ‘Without You’ featuring Usher becomes the highest charting new single in Australia – entering at #25, ‘Where Them Girls At’ featuring Flo Rida and Nicki Minaj (#32), ‘Turn Me On’ featuring Nicki Minaj (#37) and last week’s charmer ‘Night of Your Life’ featuring Jennifer Hudson drops to #43.

The Usher aided ‘Without You’ happens to be the fifth most added song to national radios this week. Further demonstrating the label’s new game plan to service strong album tracks rather than just sticking to the designated singles. I mean, why not? ‘Titanium’ became an instant hit the minute it hit airwaves. Over in the UK, Guetta‘s new album serves seven Top 100 hits – ‘Little Bad Girl’ (#18), ‘Turn Me On’ (#20), ‘Where Them Girls At’ (#32), ‘Night of Your Life’ (#51), ‘Without You’ (#56), ‘Titanium’ (#93) and ‘Crank It Up’ (#96).

Beyoncé scores another US Billboard Dance/Club #1 with ‘Best Thing I Never Had’ displacing Kylie‘s ‘Put Your Hands Up’. Side bar: ‘Run The World (Girls)’ and club promo ‘Why Don’t You Love Me?’ were the two other recent solo Bey dance chart toppers. Meanwhile here in Australia, ‘Love On Top’ becomes the tenth most added new track to Australian radios this week. Obviously powered by the buzz from her stunning MTV VMA performance. The song is currently trekking at #35 on our local iTunes chart. Out in the UK, ‘Love On Top’ manages to debut at #75 and push the album 4 back up to #14. I think I speak for all of us when I say, Beysus is more likely to bag a global smash in ‘Love On Top’ right now than with ‘Party’, which by the way rose to a new peak of #50 on the US R&B charts this week.

Florence + The Machine‘s ‘What The Water Gave Me’ debuts at #35 this week in Australia while over in the States, it emerges at #91 on the Billboard Hot 100. Elsewhere, The Wanted‘s ‘Glad You Came’ rises to #45 in Australia while The Potbelleez‘s ‘Midnight Midnight’ ascends to #48.

Wynter Gordon‘s brilliant third single ‘Buy My Love’ becomes the sixth most added new track to Aussie radios this week – racing ahead of Vanessa Amorosi‘s ‘Amazing’ (#7), Nicki Minaj/Rihanna‘s ‘Fly’ (#8) and Jessie J‘s ‘Domino (#9). ‘Buy My Love’ – the DJ Chuckie remix – finds its way back up the ARIA club charts this week, making a new peak of #38. I just got confirmation from a Warner Music Australia rep that the ‘Buy My Love’ video will premiere in Australia this Thursday. In the meantime, check out a few teaser snaps on the Wynter Warriors Tumblr fan page, which may or may not be run by someone you know.

Nervo sees their debut mainstream single – ‘We’re All No One’ – crack our ARIA club charts at #20, making it the biggest new track on the dance floor this week. The Australian twins have spent years writing smashes for the likes of David Guetta, Kelly Rowland and Kylie, and now comes their moment. Elsewhere, Sneaky Sound System‘s ‘Big’ remixes sashay into the local club charts at #24.

Melanie C‘s The Sea is currently reigning at #51 on our Australian iTunes chart. Pretty impressive given that she hasn’t got any singles on commercial radios at the minute and her local X Factor appearance isn’t scheduled to air until Wednesday or Thursday. This is just growing off the love of her fans Down Under. I made my purchase yesterday and I have to say, the standouts were as I called it: ‘Think About It’, ‘Stupid Game’ and ‘Burn’. Although, the ‘Think About It’ b-side ‘Cruel Intention’ is also quality. Probably more so than half the album.

The Saturdays‘ ‘All Fired Up’ rapidly scorched up the digital charts after it was released yesterday, reaching #2 on UK iTunes. This whole single campaign felt so dragged out, I can’t believe it’s only hitting retailers now. The video premiered almost a month ago and they’ve even flogged a performance or two on prime time telly. It seems like all that hype was probably designed to garner some decent pre-orders to ensure a chart blitz the minute the song is released. Mission accomplished.

Expect for the midweeks to bear an interesting chart battle between The Saturdays‘ ‘All Fired Up’, Leona‘s ‘Collide’ and Pixie Lott‘s ‘All About Tonight’. Where last week was all about the British lads - Olly Murs, Will Young and Joe McElderry - simultaneously rushing out releases, next Monday should be all about them girls.

Nicole Scherzinger‘s Killer Love album is charting at #78 on our Aussie iTunes at the moment. Can she manage an ARIA Top 30 entry by this time next week? Over in the UK, her latest single ‘Wet’ finds itself knocking on the Top 20′s door again. I seriously wonder if it’ll ever cross the #21 mark.

Will Young‘s Echoes slips to #3 this week to make way for two titan new releases but the man is still sustaining well, especially if you consider that his Hits compilation’s re-entered the Top 40 thanks to the ITV special A Night With Will Young. The one-off television special – similar to one staged for Cheryl Cole‘s 3 Words album launch – sees the suave Pop Idol performing smashes from his back catalogue and material from Echoes, mingled with a bit of question time. The program strategically aired after X Factor, no doubt harvesting the bulk of its viewers who have long built a relationship with the beloved singer/songwriter.

Dolly Parton‘s Better Day debuts at #9 in the UK this week, making it her highest charting album there to date. Maybe this really is what the world needs after all – an inspirational Dolly Parton album. If this quote about why she made the record doesn’t inspire you to find solace in her music then I don’t know what will.

“I don’t write just to relieve my own anxieties, I write for the people who can’t express themselves. I can’t save the world, but I might be able to save someone today if I can put them in a better mood. The music’s designed to be like a ray of sunshine for all those folks in the dark.” Oh Saint Dolly, you are precious.

Christina Aguilera scored her first US #1 hit in 10 years when her Maroon 5 collabo ‘Moves Like Jagger’ ascended to the top of the Billboard charts last Thursday. The last time Aggie kissed the crown was with her Grammy-winning smash ‘Lady Marmalade’ (with Pink, Mya and Lil Kim), which spent five weeks at #1. Her last solo US chart topper was 2000′s ‘Come On Over (All I Want Is You)’ – damn, gurl. I feel like a whole generation has slipped by since.

‘Moves Like Jagger’ owes its #1 Billboard Hot 100 success to the obvious two factors: consistent digital downloads and growing radio airplay. The track clocked its second consecutive week on top of the American digital charts, selling 217,000 downloads, which worked out to be a 6% sales increase. ‘Moves Like Jagger’ also earned “biggest airplay gainer” for three weeks in a row. Here in Australia, the single has gone double platinum but has yet to ascend beyond its current peak of #2. It remains as the biggest song on Australian radios with #1 placements in Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth airwaves.

If you care for an obscure chart achievement, which I know you do: Adam Levine became the first artist in Billboard history to achieve a #1 single with a band and also debut in the Top 10 as a soloist in the same week (see his appearance on Gym Class Heroes‘ ‘Stereo Hearts’). Golf claps all around.

Leona Lewis‘ much-hyped dance single ‘Collide’ rises to #13 on the US Billboard Dance/Club charts while over in the UK, the song’s struggling to compete with The Saturdays‘ ‘All Fired Up’ – another equally big new release that came out yesterday. Some early reviews have arrived for Leona’s forthcoming Glassheart album and it’s positively exciting shit. I mean, I’m hearing comparisons to Kate Bush, Massive Attack and one reviewer has even earmarked an epic ballad (‘Blank Page’) to be her very own ‘Someone Like You’. If this album is that foray into lush dance pop balladry that I hope it is, Glassheart should automatically assume a position in my Top 10 albums of the year. I have good reasons to jump the gun.

Check out Leona premiering ‘Glassheart’ live at G-A-Y. The track was written by loyal collaborator Ryan Tedder (who did her hit singles ‘Bleeding Love’ and Happy’). Hold on to your arm rest at the 0:53 mark because that bass is slamming!

 

Kelly Rowland‘s Here I Am exits the US Top 30 this week after five weeks. Her surprise smash ‘Motivation’ is still #2 on the American R&B charts, which really baffles me. But I can’t wait to see what happens when the more radio friendly follow up ‘Lay It On Me’ (featuring Big Sean) starts picking up momentum. The song rose to #70 on the R&B charts this week.

Lady Gaga‘s ‘Yoü and I’ makes a Top 20 breakthrough in Australia and the US – rising to #14 and #16 respectively. Over in the UK, the uptake has been a little slow but it’s definitely heading in the right direction, finally reaching #54. I was totally living when they bumped the Mark Taylor remix at my resident gay club on Saturday. Check out a bunch of new official ‘Yoü and I’ remixes here on Pop On and On. As expected, them Gaga remixes waver from the really experimental and dark through to the more commercial reimaginations. I personally prefer the aforementioned “Shania Twain” remix, which dare I say, trumps the original album version.

Chart Feed – 29.08.11

Gotye has done it again, y’all. Another week another first for the Aussie indie pop darling, who scored his first #1 album ever with Making Mirrors. The record sold over 35,000 copies which according to the ARIAs is the biggest opening week sales we’ve seen this year in Australia. Over on the singles side, Gotye and Kimbra‘s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ remains at #1 – registering a 20% sales bump this week, making it the biggest weekly singles sales our country has seen since Christmas 2004 when Anthony Callea‘s ‘The Prayer’ peaked. Golf claps all around for Gotye, really. This is a massive feat. In fact, the last time we had an Australian artist simultaneously lick the top of both charts was in 2007 with Silverchair‘s last album.

Jack Vidgen may have flopped on the singles chart but he’s proving to be a capable album seller. The Australia’s Got Talent crown snatcher debuts at #3 with Yes I Am this week, making it the second biggest new record on the shelves. Scratch the divas – who run the charts? Talent show boys.

Will Young – Pop Idol legend and the new queen of lush dance/pop – saw his fourth album Echoes debut at #1 in the UK this week while the project’s lead single ‘Jealousy’ enters at #5. The man has had a pretty flawless nine year run so far with every album he’s put out going either #1 or #2 in the UK. The brand new Richard X-hemmed record is utterly career-defining and needless to say, it’s already in Feed Limmy’s Top 10 Albums of 2011 shortlist. Will’s The Hits compilation returns to the UK Top 100 this week at #56. Would you like to see a pretty graph representing Will’s chart success? ‘Course you do.

Joe McElderry – X Factor winner circa 2009 and future boo of David Lim – makes a bona fide chart comeback this week with his album of covers Classic entering at #3 in the UK. Look, in the two years he’s been in the game the lad has suffered his share of chart setbacks which saw him promptly dropped by Simon Cowell‘s Syco label. The Popstar to Operastar win truly was a turning point for him and regardless of how cheesy you think a soapy album of ballads might be, I just appreciate my future boo for doing whatever he can to bring home bacon.

Josh Pyke‘s third studio album Only Sparrows debuts at #4 here this week. He is not a talent show boy. Sorry to break the flow like this. The Australian strummy la la artist recently featured on local rapper 360‘s single ‘Throw It Away’, which was actually super amazing.

British dub step sensation Nero debuts at #12 here this week with Welcome Reality, which topped the UK charts last week. Over in the UK, the album slips to #8 while its chart-topping single ‘Promises’ dips to #13.

Jessica Mauboy‘s Get ‘Em Girls tumbles to #17 this week after its triumphant resurrection last week, thanks to the deluxe edition repackaging. Her fluorescent new single ‘Inescapable’ is still the most played song on Brisbane radios this week, while it holds tight to its Top 5 placement on the ARIA charts. Speaking of radio, Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera‘s ‘Moves Like Jagger’ is still the most played song on Australian radios but it looks like it faces a fair challenge toppling Gotye and Kimbra on the singles chart.

Jason Derulo‘s insufferable new single ‘It Girl’ takes a massive leap to #3 on the ARIA charts this week, no doubt thanks to some overwhelming radio support. ‘It Girl’ was the most played song on Sydney airwaves in the last week. Elsewhere, looks like the rest of the nation’s following in Sydney radios’ footsteps by bumping more Calvin Harris and Kelis. The pair’s single ‘Bounce’ – which was the #1 most played song on Sydney airwaves two weeks ago – finally cracks the ARIA singles Top 10 this week.

Calvin’s follow up single ‘Feel So Close’ debuts at #2 in the UK this week and it was promptly despatched to Aussie radios last week. This is what the video looks like:

 

Cobra Starship and Sabi‘s ‘You Make Me Feel’ cracks the Top 20 in Australia – just barely. Fun fact: 20 out of 50 songs in our ARIA Top 50 this week have a feature artist involved. Some tracks even have more than one feature artists involved. Orgy.

Lady Gaga‘s ‘Yoü and I’ is on the edge of Top 20 glory [Editor's note: Major eye roll at your shitty puns, Limmy] leaping from #34 to #21 here this week. Over in the UK, the single shoots from #187 to #70.

David Guetta and Jennifer Hudson‘s ‘Night of Your Life’ debuts at #37 in Australia this week. Judging by the success of the digital promo singles – hello, the Sia collabo ‘Titanium’ is Top 10 for the second week running – I reckon the album should have no problems securing a Top 5 entry. Heck, Top 3 even – let’s be generous. It should come close to touching Gotye and Adele‘s stratosphere. Guetta/Hudson‘s ‘Night of Your Life’ debuts at #35 in the UK while its predecessor ‘Titanium’ sinks to #53. Looking on the British dance charts – Guetta has five current hits in the Top 20, including Snoop Dogg‘s ‘Wet’ which he produced and conveniently placed on his Nothing But The Beat album.

Shannon Noll‘s ‘Switch Me On’ finally enters our Top 50 at #45 this week – thanks to some concentrated radio support up north. The song may not be in the national Top 10 most played but it’s still the #1 song on Gold Coast radios.

The Wanted makes a surprise breakthrough this week with ‘Glad You Came’ peaking at #50 in Australia. That’s superb effort, boys. No promo yet – just rising on the good old hype rolling off the interwebs. The pop quintet is scheduled to head out here next month for their first promo trip. What do I have to do to secure an interview with these lads?

Olly Murs‘ summery new single ‘Heart Skips A Beat’ finally arrives and effortlessly tops the UK charts this week. It managed to sell over 109,000 copies to become his second chart topper to date. While the second album’s still underway, Olly’s self-titled debut starts moving back up the charts to #32. Elsewhere, speaking of exciting new entries – Florence + The Machine‘s new single ‘What The Water Gave Me’ breaks out at #24 this week in the UK. It didn’t even make the Top 40 of our Aussie digital charts. How rude.

Jessie J makes her fourth consecutive UK Top 20 entry this week with ‘Who’s Laughing Now’ rising to #16. Meanwhile, Nicole Scherzinger‘s struggling a bit to get everyone moist with her new single ‘Wet’. The song keeps lurking outside the Top 20 and you’d think with the desperate reduced download price on iTunes last week, the track would make its way up but no – it flounders a little to #25.

Barbra Streisand‘s new album of covers What Matters Most debuts at #7 in the UK this week. Can you imagine the hoard of old queens bum rushing in store to pick up this new Babz collection? What Matters Most is no garden variety collection of random rose-coloured ballads – it’s a very specific crop of Alan Bergman and Margaret Bergman covers. The pair are legendary American songwriters who penned classics like ‘The Windmills of Your Mind’ and Babz’s Yentl classic ‘Papa, Can You Hear Me?’.

Vengaboys‘ Greatest Hits debuts at #18 on the UK dance charts this week. Why hasn’t there been a big talk-up and promo about this? Where’s the dubious cover art a la Steps‘ Ultimate Collection? Well, the answer’s quite simple. Vengaboys‘ Greatest Hits is merely a laissez-faire iTunes compilation thrown together in the last minute to coincide with their reunion tour – and of course, it features the anthems ‘Boom Boom Boom Boom’, ‘We Like To Party’ and ‘We’re Going To Ibiza’. My fellow Aussie bunnies, the Vengabus is pulling up Down Under in January. This is not a test.

Kelly Rowland‘s fabulosity on one of Britain’s highest rating shows is doing shit all for her own album sales. The sassy new X Factor judge has had to endure some painful Beyoncé covers in the line of duty but where Bey effortlessly keeps selling 4 through the roof, Kelendria’s Here I Am falls out of the UK urban Top 30. There hasn’t been a stitch of promo done for the American edition of Here I Am as yet and it understandably hasn’t even cracked the UK Top 100. Meanwhile, Destiny’s Child‘s #1′s compilation moves up to #28 on the UK urban charts. I mean, shit. Even Tulisa‘s shifting sales. N Dubz‘s 2009 album Against All Odds re-enters the British urban charts at #33.

Kelly‘s second single ‘Lay It On Me’ (featuring Big Sean) is finally moving. It debuted at #88 on the US R&B/Hip Hop charts while the unshakable ‘Motivation’ still holds tight to #2. R&B producer Rico Love – who did the bulk of Here I Am - revealed last week that he’s already back in the studio putting together her next album, which will be due in the North American spring with a new single to boot then. Huh? Let me get this straight – there’s a UK edition of Here I Am arriving in November with new material and then there’s another album arriving for the US crowd four months later? Gurl. Talk about building your empire when Beyoncé’s busy building a crib. And I don’t mean “crib” in the urban parlance.

Lil Wayne and Drake‘s new single ‘She Will’ debuts at #3 on the US Billboard Hot 100 – making it the highest selling new entry of the week. Mate, do you have any idea how hard it is to debut in the Top 20 let alone the Top 3? But of course, for a star of Wayne’s magnitude – you wouldn’t expect any less. The hip hop star’s releasing his newest album Tha Carter IV straight to digital outlets after the VMA’s today. Expect for it to shutdown charts etc.

Nicole Scherzinger‘s ‘Don’t Hold Your Breath’ debuts at #86 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The single has already snatched trophies on the European and Australian charts before it was drafted for the States. It’s really heartening to see that the excitement’s still there despite it hardly being a revelation for anyone with internet access in the last eight months. It’s a fantastic single and where ‘Right There’ paved the way for Nicole, this’ll be the number she’ll be remembered for.

Natalia Kills‘ superb debut Perfectionist enters the US dance/electronic chart at #6 and US Billboard 200 at #134 – a breakthrough that’s been a long-time coming for the English singer/songwriter who has been building her underground fan base for years. The fabulous new single ‘Free’ (featuring will.i.am) has yet to go mainstream but really, it’s got all the makings of a pop anthem. There is no reason why she can’t have global success with this one.

Kylie Minogue ascends to #1 on the US dance/club play charts with ‘Put Your Hands Up’ – making it her fourth consecutive dance chart topper from the Aphrodite era. Will we ever see a music video for this? Somebody please inform. Further disco down, Leona Lewis/Avicii cracks the Top 20 with ‘Collide’ – her first American dance hit. The single was just submitted to Australian radios this week. She recently announced that her forthcoming third studio album will be titled Glass Heart.

Gloria Estefan‘s comeback single ‘Wepa’ finally cracks the US dance/club charts at #37. Last week, the Latina diva unveiled a new R3hab remix of the track featuring Pitbull and it absolutely slays. Ain’t nothing wrong with the original Pharrell version but this one just feels more club-ready, fulfilling Mama Estefan’s wishes to really return to her dance roots.

Jessica Sutta‘s flawless new single ‘Show Me’ debuts at #39 on the US dance charts. The ex-Pussycat Doll recently revealed that her debut album Sutta Pop [mega cringe] will be released through Hollywood Records in May. If the material she’s purveying is more proper European pop quality along the lines of ‘Show Me’ and less reflective of the disgusting title, then we’re in luck. ‘Show Me’ was produced by Busbee, who co-wrote Alexandra Burke‘s ‘Bad Boys’ and last year’s Aussie X Factor winner Altiyan Child‘s ‘Somewhere In The World’.

How good is this? In response to the overwhelming demand and crossover for K-pop music in America, Billboard.com has launched their own Korea K-Pop Hot 100 chart. It joins a family of other international Billboard charts like the Japan Hot 100, UK Albums/Songs, Canadian Albums/Songs and German Songs/Albums.

On Thursday’s inaugural K-Pop Hot 100 – Sistar scores a #1 single with ‘So Cool’ leading the pack of other notable mentions like 2NE1‘s splendid ‘Ugly’ (#3), T-ara‘s long-reigning ‘Roly Poly’ (#4), Miss A‘s catchy ‘Goodbye Baby’ (#5) and Super Junior‘s ‘Mr Simple’ (#7). I pretty much exclusively stan for 2NE1 and T-ara right now so anything they do is bound to be newsworthy around here.

Chart Feed – 22.08.11

Gotye and Kimbra chalk up their second week on top of the ARIA charts with ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’, now certified platinum sales. No prize for guess where his new album will land on next Monday’s charts. Y’all know Gotye‘s Making Mirrors is pretty much set to come out on top, I mean, he’ll at least debut at #2 if he’s unable to mount the gargantuan Adele. Gotyemania is already heating up this week with his last studio album – 2006′s Like Drawing Blood - reaching a new peak of #12.

Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera‘s ‘Moves Like Jagger’ is still surprisingly cock blocked from reaching the top, staggering at #2 in Australia after oh so many weeks of loitering about. ’Moves Like Jagger’ may be the most downloaded song in America but it’s also stalling similarly at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. It has already ascended to #1 position in New Zealand last week and over in the UK, it debuts at #3 this week. ’MVJ’ is the most played song on Australian radios this week. What I find interesting about the airplay charts is that the Top 5 most played songs in every capital and major city is vastly different to each other and sometimes almost estranged from the overall nation-wide tally.

In Sydney, ‘Moves Like Jagger’ is moving out – their most played song this week is Calvin Harris and Kelis‘ ‘Bounce’, incidentally also the #1 club song in Australia. Sydney airwaves have some of the strongest concentration of dance music anywhere in the country. This week, they’re the only city to have Alexandra Stan‘s ‘Mr Saxobeat’, Cobra Starship feat. Sabi‘s ‘You Make Me Feel’ and David Guetta feat. Ludacris and Taio Cruz‘s ‘Little Bad Girl’ in their Top 10. The radio support for the latter two reflected favourably on their overall ARIA chart performance with Cobra Starship debuting at #31 and Guetta et al re-entering the digital charts at #18.

Here in Melbourne, ‘Moves Like Jagger’ dominates the airwaves and unlike the rest of the nation, we’re still keeping Katy Perry‘s ‘Last Friday Night (TGIF)’ and Lady Gaga‘s ‘The Edge of Glory’ on Top 5 rotation.

Brisbane radios love them some Jessica Mauboy ’Inescapable’ – it’s the second most played song there this week, giving it more priority than any other Australian city. ’Inescapable’ holds tight to #4 position on the ARIA charts while her Get ‘Em Girls album make a triumphant re-entry this week at #9, thanks to the new beefed up two-disc deluxe edition. It’s a huge feat for Jess once again to still be the nation’s best selling female solo popstar. Just take a look around – there are no other homegrown solo pop artists around the Top 50 mark. Bossbitch.

Eskimo Joe‘s Ghosts of The Past debuts at #3 in Australia to become the highest selling new album this week. The single ’Love Is A Drug’ starts charting at #38, enjoying the strongest radio support in Perth this last week. Elsewhere, speaking of our fellow countrymen - Shannon Noll‘s comeback single ‘Switch Me On’ may have yet to crack the ARIA Top 50 or even the Australian digital Top 40 but he’s #1 on the Gold Coast airplay charts. Golf claps for Nolly.

David Guetta and Sia‘s ‘Titanium’ bullets through to #10 in Australia this week – making this Sia‘s first Top 10 entry ever. Good to see that Guetta’s local label is wasting no time with this track, sending it off to radios despite ‘Titanium’ only being initially issued as just an iTunes digital promo to foreshadow his album release.

‘Titanium’ is the third most added new song to Australian radios this week. In the US, the single enters the Billboard Hot 100 at #66. Needless to say this is Sia‘s first time on the chart. She’s had two US Top 40 albums and two Top 30 dance singles but this is shaping up to be a proper mainstream single success, y’all. Over in the UK, ‘Titanium’ tumbles out of the Top 30 after just two weeks. Further down, Guetta’s new digital promo single ‘Lunar’ – an instrumental dance track with Afrojack – debuts at #90.

Jason DeRulo‘s dreadful new single ‘It Girl’ debuts at #16 here and #39 on the US Billboard Hot 100 this week. I’m sorry y’all. Sometimes doing my Monday breakfast radio segment is the only time I experience what most daytime radio listeners have to endure and today when ‘It Girl’ came on – mmph! Let me tell you, it was bleak.

Lady Gaga‘s ‘Yoü and I’ enters at #34 in Australia this week. Over in the US, the single re-enters the US Billboard Hot 100 at #96. Rejoice. Have y’all had the pleasure of line-dancing to this amazing Shania-friendly Mark Taylor remix yet?

Calvin Harris still rules the Australian club charts with ‘Bounce’ but his follow up single ‘Feels So Close’ is one of the biggest movers there this week, leaping from #34 to #8. Looking further down, there’s a huge selection of new impacting dance tunes on the Australian club scene. Highlights include Denzal Park‘s ‘Militia’ (#26), The Potbelleez ‘Midnight Midnight’ (#31), David Guetta/Sia‘s ‘Titanium (#35) and finally, mah gurl Wynter Gordon‘s ‘Buy My Love (Chuckie Remix)’ entering at #47. Yes!

Emeli Sandé‘s superb single ‘Heaven’ debuts at #2 in the UK in what’s evidently been a mad-rush of a week for three strong new releases. The UK Top 3 this week is all taken up by new records with Wretch 32 feat. Josh Kumra‘s ‘Don’t Go’ taking the top spot.

But back to Ms Sandé – her time as a solo artist has been a long time coming. She has appeared on two UK Top 10 smashes – first on Chipmunk‘s ‘Diamond Rings’ and then on Roll Deep‘s ‘Never Be Your Woman’. She has written for the likes of Tinie Tempah, Cheryl Cole, Susan Boyle, Cher Lloyd and Leona Lewis - excelling in soulful compositions. It’s great that she’s such a gifted writer and all, but I really hope she finds success as a recording artist too.

Joe Jonas‘ new single ‘See No More’ debuts at #53 in the UK this week. Expect this to pick up when he joins Britney on her Femme Fatale tour of Europe in the coming weeks. Back in the States, dude hasn’t bettered his Billboard Hot 100 peak of #92 and he’s just starting to prove to all of us that even the mighty Jonas reputation isn’t always as bankable as it seems.

Nero scores a UK #1 debut with their first album Welcome To Reality intercepting the almighty Amy Winehouse and Adele tandem ruling. Dub step is definitely the flavour of the moment right now and Nero’s the latest success story for the electronica sub genre. Their single ‘Promises’ broke out at #1 last week, making it the second dub step single to ever top the UK charts. The pioneering single only came last month when DJ Fresh‘s ‘Louder’ ascended to the top. It’s no surprise that everyone’s jumping on board and clamouring for a Skrillex remix – or the like – these days. Even young Cher Lloyd‘s in on it with her dub step inflected ‘Swagger Jagger’ remixes and rather blatant follow up single ‘Dub On The Track’ set to impact soon.

Jedward‘s second album Victory enters at #34 in the UK this week. Remember when nobody even wanted to sign them for any more than two singles? Look how times have changed for X Factor‘s stylised Twiddle-dee and Twiddle-dum. The pair were inducted into the Celebrity Big Brother house last week and once again, you gotta hand it to Louis Walsh for making cringeworthy decisions work for these two. Jedward’s Victory contains the singles ‘Lipstick’ and ‘Bad Behaviour’ – and was entirely produced by DEEKAY, the team behind records for Sugababes (circa Change), Joe McElderry and even K-pop bands like TVXQ and Girls’ Generation.

Kelly Rowland‘s Here I Am dips on the UK urban charts to #26 this week. It’ll be interesting to see how her album fares on next Monday’s charts – I mean, by the grace of Beysus, it could even crack the UK Top 100! She’s practically new TV royalty there now, if the strong ratings for X Factor‘s season premiere was anything to go by. 12 million people tuned in to watch Kelendria judge, flirt with Gary and sass out a rude contestant on Saturday night. I doubt she’ll be doing very much else in the UK apart from the show because she’s got a tour to hit up with Chris Brown over in the States soon. Back in America, Here I Am falls out of the Top 20 in just three weeks – landing itself at #24.

Jay-Z and Kanye West‘s Watch The Throne has entered at #1 on the US Billboard Hot 200 as expected, pulling over 436,000 first week sales. Scanning the globe, the album has also gone #1 in Canada and Norway, and managed to go Top 3 in the UK, Australia, Denmark and the Netherlands.

Evanescence‘s comeback single ‘What You Want’ debuts at #68 on the US Billboard Hot 100. It’s been one hell of a campaign to get these guys back to mainstream attention and it seems like their team’s working the social networking sites to great effect. Billboard reports that during the single’s debut week, Evanescence gained 110,000 Facebook fans and 5,600 Twitter followers. Streaming media from Facebook and Myspace were also factored into their overall comeback success – with ‘What You Want’ garnering over 100,000 plays on Facebook and 10,000 on Myspace.

Britney Spears claims her third consecutive #1 US dance single with ‘I Wanna Go’ leapfrogging Kylie‘s ‘Put Your Hands Up’ to the top spot. Femme Fatale is so far Britney’s second album to ever have all its singles go #1 on the American dance charts. You might’ve guessed that the other was her equally fierce Blackout album. So whatever that fourth Femme Fatale single is, don’t fuck it up.

 

Elsewhere on the dance charts, major movers include Leona Lewis/Avicii‘s ‘Collide’ (#22), Luciana‘s ‘I’m Still Hot’ (#23) and Jennifer Hudson‘s ‘No One Gonna Love You’ (#33) – all moving at least 10 places up. That’s nice about the J Hud song but really, it’s only gonna clear the dance floor when everybody hears what she’s offering on David Guetta‘s ‘Night of Your Life’ [see above]. The song serves as the French DJ/producer’s third and final digital promo single to precede the release of Nothing But The Beat.
