I left y’all scratching at the post a little last week because I took my ass on a little vacaycay to Brisbane.

Bitch, you should’ve seen me lounging on the beach in an island that was practically deserted on a Monday arvo. I was having a Mariah moment frolicking in the sand, trying to look cute for my Instagram photos. But hey, I am back now and here comes your chart feed – which might cover some things I didn’t get to touch on last week.

This has been a good week for Robbie Williams who scored his first simulatenous UK #1 album-and-single action in 11 years. Elsewhere, the following chart showboaters can’t complain either: Taylor Swift, Calvin Harris, Little Mix, Of Monsters and Men, The Wanted, and to a certain extent, Christina Aguilera. SAY!

X Factor Australia 2012 – Live Shows Week Four

I am like that flop godfather who forgets your child’s birthday then tries to make up for it a month later with expensive gifts and all the Pillow Pets he can carry out the store.

X FACTOR AUSTRALIA 2012 LIVE SHOW WEEK 4

I know for the past two years, it’s been my thing to blog about the X Factor, and so many of y’all enjoy reading it – but this year, I’ve kinda been overwhelmed with work and life. It’s not to say I haven’t been watching and observing our contestants from a far, though.

So in touch I am with the show, that I can effortlessly catch up with you guys in week four of the live shows, and act like I never left the judging panel.

Now that we’re a month into the live show shenanigans, I think it’s pretty safe to say that this is X Factor Australia‘s most impressive year yet. Never have we had so many acts that sound so damn ready before.

This week the Top 9 acts take on a legends theme, canvassing everything from Madonna to Michael Jackson, Whitney to The Beatles and The Police.

Even though it could’ve been a really cheesy and predictable stretch for song choices, I’m really pleased that the show producers and judges chose some less-frequently-referenced hits.

Soul sister Angel Tupai gave Michael Jackson‘s ‘Dirty Diana’ more grunts than the Williams sisters in a grand slam, flaw-free pop princess Samantha Jade gave moments with Whitney‘s ‘Run to You’, and Fourtunate surprised us with an obscure Phil Collins single that didn’t even chart in Australia.

Chart Feed – 01.10.12

“Oppa gangnam style!” *drops the beat*

You know when your parents start to recognise a internet viral music video that it’s well and truly time for everyone else to move on.

It has been a tremendous week for K-pop sensation PSY‘s ‘Gangnam Style’, not only is it officially the most ‘liked’ video in the history of the internet – the track has also successfully topped the Australian and UK charts to become the first Korean pop single to do so.

Its crossover chart success in the Western market is just mind-blowing, no doubt bringing a whole lot of national pride for South Koreans everywhere.

Elsewhere, it has also been a great week for Pink, Mumford and Sons, Conor Maynard, Brandy and Christina “I think you already know my weight!” Aguilera.

Chart Feed – 24.09.12

We’ve seen the charts light up like it was Christmas this month, thanks to the heavy flow of new albums taking over the shelves.

For only the second time in history, the entire top six spots on the US Billboard 200 are filled with debut entries. Here in Australia, we have eight new albums scaling our ARIA Top 20, while over in the UK, they have six.

Y’all can obviously expect for it to get even more competitive in the coming months as all the strong sellers come out to play for your seasonal spendings.

This has been a good week for Pink, The Killers, Carly Rae Jepsen, Kanye West and – definitely more than ever – PSY, the K-pop icon responsible for ‘Gangnam Style’.

Quick Feed: Guy Sebastian, Delta Goodrem, Melanie Amaro and Parade

Despite having woken up at 4am this morning to do breakfast radio (side bar: we interviewed Ricki-Lee, squee with me later) then rushed off to my full-time job, I still found the good humour to kid myself into thinking I could actually bang out “a few quick blog posts” before going to a friend’s celebratory dinner. Exhaustion is an understatement right now.

Fuck, I just had this amazing light bulb moment. In celebration of my obvious “career” highlight interviewing Ricki-Lee this week – why don’t we try to slot in as many RLC pop references as we can into this post. In fact, if you record a reading of this whole blog out loud then play the tape backwards, it should somehow sound like ’Raining Diamonds’.

The original Australian Idol Guy Sebastian has revealed the artwork for this newest single ‘Battle Scars’, which features star American rapper Lupe Fiasco. To be honest with you, any of the rugged and masculine chic images we’ve seen of Guy in the last two years could’ve all been done in the same photo shoot. It’s nothing you haven’t seen before, unlike the below class act with her giant piece of joolry.

‘Battle Scars’ was sent to media today and from what I’ve heard, it is major ballad of Toni Braxton‘s ‘Yesterday’ proportions.

We can probably expect the new album Armageddon to drop some time before this season of Aussie X Factor is through.

Christina Parie Interview

Not to be confused with the similarly named ‘Jar of Hearts’ purveyor, Christina Parie, the Aussie X Factor pop sensation is ready to set the record straight on a few things. The regular confusion with her Warner Music label mate Christina Perri being the first we cross off the list.

“Ahhh!” she screams down the phone to me before bursting into laughter, in a reaction that was part relief and part amused when I told her that I had once put my hand up for an interview with Christina Perri thinking I had bagged one with her.

“The confusion works the other way now! ‘Cause usually they get me confused with her. Now you get her confused with me!” she said.

The Sydney teen would no doubt be untangling more mix ups of the sort now that she’s doing promo and interviews to herald her debut EP: 16 and Unstoppable.

Christina is the latest contestant from the 2011 Australian X Factor series to step into the spotlight with her own music, following close behind former competitors Reece Mastin and Johnny Ruffo, who both scored ARIA Top 20 hits with their singles.

When asked if there was a sense of rivalry still lurking after the show, Christina shut it down saying there never was one to begin with.
